State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) released the below statement following the rushed passage of Senate Bill 2412:
“This is one more move in a recent strategy of partisan power grabs by the majority party who want to subvert the democratic process by ignoring the will of the voters in the Metro East. They rammed through legislation specific to Madison County that redrew judicial subcircuits. They tried to sneak through changes to the appointment process for members of the Metro East Sanitation District.
“If they don’t like the results of elections, they gerrymander and they rewrite election law rules. This time, it’s even worse, because they are attempting to change the rules in the middle of an election cycle. This is just another purely partisan power grab by the super majority party to try to stack the deck against the will of the voters. This is one of the most devious and undemocratic ploys I have seen from a majority party that is drunk on power, focused on serving special interests, and has nothing but disdain for the average Illinoisan.”
