State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) issued the following statement after the Senate approved House Bill 3438, legislation that includes a bailout for the Chicago transit system funded in part by a new $1.50 delivery tax on nearly all online orders:
“Illinois Democrats are once again digging into the pockets of hardworking families to subsidize their failures.
“After promising no new broad-based taxes and preaching about fairness, they turned around and passed a new tax on nearly every delivery to your home, using downstate families to bail out a Chicago transit system mismanaged by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and his cronies.
“This money doesn’t go to fix roads or improve access to services. Instead, it forces people in communities like ours to pay for Chicago mismanagement.
“While the people in charge reward failure and mismanagement, hardworking Illinois families continue to be stuck paying the price. They are so desperate and so out-of-touch, they are down to taxing your online orders and other package delivers. It’s ridiculous.”
