Sen. Plummer’s office now accepting food donations, partners together with local Nourishing Greatness program

State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) will be partnering together with the Nourishing Greatness program to collect food for their weekend food program.

Nourishing Greatness is a local food program focused on eliminating hunger and raising awareness about the widespread problem of childhood hunger. The goal of the organization is to send at least 4.5 meals home with Vandalia students in need who might otherwise go without meals over the weekend.

Sen. Plummer will be using his Vandalia District Office as a food drop-off location to benefit the program. Through January 15, interested donors may drop off non-perishable food items at his office, located at 310 West Gallatin Street in Vandalia.

Suggested items being accepted include: fruit cups, cereal, nuts, raisins, macaroni cups, apple sauce cups, oatmeal, pudding snack packs, pop tarts, crackers, granola bars, trail mix, bagged apples, soups and other dry or canned goods.

“No child should have to wonder where their next meal will come from, but the sad reality is that there are children who do not have access to hot meals when they’re not in school,” said Sen. Plummer. “The Nourishing Greatness program works to provide a measure of security to kids who might otherwise go hungry, and I applaud them for their work in the Vandalia community. No matter how big or small, anything you can afford to donate can make a difference.”

Sen. Plummer’s office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Those with questions can call 618-283-3000.
