Senator Jason Plummer and Representative Blaine Wilhour recently held a town hall to discuss the future of the Vandalia Correctional Center and proposed closures from the Governor’s office. The legislators welcomed colleagues Senator Terri Bryant and Senator Steve McClure, along with union representatives, to update the community on what is happening with the facility. They all recounted difficulties dealing with the administration and the lack of transparency from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Lawmakers also discussed their efforts calling for a joint committee hearing to get answers on what the administration’s plans are for Vandalia.
Everyone taking part encouraged members of the community to stick together to protect the facility from attempted closures by the administration.
