State Senator Jason Plummer Issues Statement on the 55 Billion Budget Passage

State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) issued the following statement after Illinois Democrats passed the largest budget in Illinois history, totaling over 55 billion dollars.

“Illinois Democrats just passed the largest and most reckless budget in state history. More than 55 billion dollars in spending, pushed through with no transparency, no serious debate, and no concern for the taxpayers stuck paying for it.

“This is not leadership. It is political cowardice and corruption at its worst.

“Democrats are now hammering Illinois families with a billion dollars in new taxes. This is what happens when a political party is more interested in serving special interests and noncitizens rather than Illinois taxpayers.

“Spending under Governor Pritzker has exploded by nearly 40 percent in just a few years. Has your household budget gone up 40 percent? Of course not. In fact, it’s gotten smaller as the Majority Party takes more and more of your money each year. But do-nothing Democrats do not care. They keep taking more while giving you less. Less public safety. Fewer opportunities. More people leaving this state.

“This budget is dishonest. It is irresponsible. And it is a direct attack on the people who make Illinois work. I voted no because I will not be silent while one party loots the state to feed its political machine. The people of Illinois deserve better than this circus.”
