State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) released the following statement after Governor Pritzker and legislative Democrats held a press conference touting their election-year gimmick tax plan:
“I don’t understand how the Governor and his legislative allies could possibly have the gall to brag about these supposed tax savings after spending the last three years trying to raise every tax and fee they could find. The state right now is reaping a windfall of cash from sales taxes due to historic inflation and price spikes, much of which has been driven by policies they support. Their answers are to now freeze a couple cent increase in the motor fuel tax, but only until just after the election. And to top it off, they are forcing gas stations to hang signs bragging about the supposed savings. The people of Illinois are smart enough to see through this clear election-year gimmick.”
“I sponsored legislation to offer significant and permanent tax relief to all Illinois families, but the Democrats refused to even allow these plans to be heard in committee. Actions speak louder than words. Pritzker and his allies don’t want to help working families, they’re only interested in election year gimmicks that they hope distract Illinoisans from what is really killing their pocketbook – Illinois Democrats and their far-left policies.”
