Senator Plummer Supports New Public Safety “Situational Awareness Room” in Edwardsville

State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) secured $75,000 in funding to help transform an unfinished section of the Edwardsville Public Safety Building into a state-of-the-art “situational awareness room” designed to enhance the city’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

“This is about making sure the men and women who protect and serve our community have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively,” said Senator Plummer. “I’m proud we were able to deliver funding for a project that directly supports public safety.”

Senator Plummer recently toured the completed space alongside members of the Edwardsville Police and Fire Departments, who will use the new room to coordinate responses to major incidents, manage emergency operations, and conduct training exercises.

The situational awareness room is equipped with an array of large monitors capable of displaying real-time camera feeds, geographic maps, and other critical information. It offers a flexible seating area that can be configured as an emergency operations center or adapted for classroom-style training and planning sessions.

“We greatly appreciate the support of Sen. Plummer, along with the backing of Mayor Art Risavy and the City Council. This kind of concerted commitment helps the members of the Edwardsville Police and Fire Departments serve our community quickly and efficiently,” said Police Chief Michael Fillback. “We are fortunate as a City to be represented by elected officials who prioritize the safety and well-being of our citizens.”

The room was officially completed in May and is now fully operational.
